We got the opportunity to escape for a weekend to a place we have never been before; Camping at one of the most beautiful areas, Bass Lake. We camped at SpringCove Campground, and the host’s there were awesome! You can honestly camp at any of the other campgrounds since they are all walking distance from the lake. One thing that is a little crazy with these campgrounds, is how common it was for black bears to casually walk through the campsites. I am used to bear proof lockers that you can put your food in at night, which they didn’t have. We had to be very careful before we went to sleep about how we cleaned up after ourselves. The bears we did encounter did end up wandering off and we didn’t see them again.
We also happened to go on one of the hottest weekends that the bay area has had in a while, so hiking was not in the cards. I personally love to hike, but the heat started too early for us; a couple people did mention that hiking there is really enjoyable and can be challenging if you are up for that. Lounging in the water all day with friends was very enjoyable and something I would highly recommend. If you do have a boat, this lake is also perfect for that! The lake is very long so you are able to go tubing if that’s something your family loves to do! Around the lake you also have the opportunity to rent jet skis, boats and paddle boards! If you are there camping, keep an eye out for the deals that they have on the various rental equipment as well!
