If you are ever in the San Diego area, schedule this beach into your plans. The beach is very long so there is plenty of space for you to enjoy with your friends, and there is also a hiking area right above the beach as well. We were not able to do the hike since the area was closed due to COVID-19, but my boyfriend has done it in the past and highly recommends it. There’s multiple different paths within the hiking area, so you can also choose your difficulty! The beach itself though is definitely beautiful and worth lounging at. Since I am from the Bay Area, the warm water at this beach is amazing in comparison to any beach up North. If you are also down for a long stroll along the beach, I would suggest hiking all the way down the beach past the rocks on the left.
As you hike down there is wall caves you can choose to hangout in to escape the sun; there is also more personal space as you get away from the main beach. Beware when you do pass the rock path to the other side, there could be some nudist’s since that area is a little more secluded.
Personally, this area is more enjoyable because we had our own space and there is also wild life when you climb onto the rocks. One recommendation I would make, is to leave before high tide which is around when the sun is setting. If you leave after the sun sets from that side of the beach, your path back to the car becomes a little on the sketchy side since the water comes so high up. So if you do want to watch the sun set just make sure you’re on the main beach side of the rocks and you should be fine! I hope you enjoy this beach as much as I did, leave a comment below on your experience!
